been to a good do?

Yello to all of my fans... from London. I have crossed the Atlantic safely and soundly. And haven't ridden in any cabs with any attractive english men... YET. ;) oh cool your jets whitney! I will not be stolen.

After being awake for exactly 36.5 hours, you bet your ass I crashed on the plane. I was on my seat cushion, had my neck pillow and fleece blanket... and the eye mask came right on. You better believe I missed drinks, both meals, high turbulence and the most romantic thing ever;
There had been a little boy (I'd guess he was 7 or 8) sitting right next to me. THANK GOD IT WAS A OVERNIGHT FLIGHT SO HE SLEPT. I could not handle any monsters during the hours of my exhaustion. Anyway, I cannot sleep well in the position with my head above my feet. Generally, I have to have my feet up on something. So I placed my feet on my bag and laid semi slanted in a diagonalish position in my area. Anything was comfortable at my level of delusion anyway. So, i was in this position and the little boy had his feet up on my legs (which was relayed by the kind and warm hearted, yet a little cynical (which i didn't mind a bit and generally don't in moderation)  woman that was next to me the entire flight. I missed all of this. I'm a light sleeper. THAT is my life. Occasionally missing a lot because I'm laughing too hard or not conscious enough to take note. I just have too much going on in my life, but keeping busy (and by this I mean disgustingly, feverishly busy FUELS me. Ironically enough. I like pressure, deadlines, scrambling etc. this is just who i am.

I also went without caffeine for nearly 17 hours. That's a first. I've come to terms with the fact that this will be my lifestyle, being dependent on one thing only. Double espresso? ABSOLUTELY I'LL HAVE FOUR. haha, silly.

It took Anna and I nearly 25 minutes to find each other in the Heathrow Airport. I was a little nervous, but only like a grain of salt worth or nervousness. I knew she was coming and I don't mind being lost... even though I am a CONTROL FREAK. Yep. Get ova' it.

I did want to take a small second to mention that I don't feel jetlagged in the slightest. Want to know why? Because I am a mean and awful partner to my body. Little to no sleep each night, loads of caffeine, my body doesn't know a time zone from a sailboat. I have an irregular heartbeat... due to red bull's, coffee, lack of sleep and too much hard work of course.

I have this voice I use/certain tone/repetition of words that sounds very similar (IN MY MIND ONLY) to Dane Cook. He's disgustingly hilarious in all forms, if ya ask me.

It's interesting seeing the pubs and restaurants here. I'm familiar with many of them because Technomic has all sorts to do with UK Chains/Independent restaurants. It's really nice, especially because Anna worked there too.

Today the following happened or I made them happen;
ate at strada > walk through islington > camden market > robs flat > TESCO > a+j sleepover. we're taking it easy tonight to pump up for tomorrow.

i need to catch up on the last of lost. PEACE!
ps- whitney! have a safe flight tomorrow. e-mail me so i know you're safe if you get a chance or i'll worry. you know how i am. thanks chickcakes.

insinuating rec.'s

This has been one hell of a week. A MAD silly week.

I'm catching up now. I'm catching up on Lost and blogging. I don't feel tired, which is a problem. I cannot believe I've trained my body to be OKAY with all-nighters. I mean, of COURSE I have. It's just so weird to think about. When I board my flight, I'll take tylenol PM to sleep. If I don't rest, I'm not even sure what Anna will do with me. She hasn't dealt with my delirium thus far. She'd probably leave me for the birds.

This is the first few hours of free time I've had in weeks. It's beautiful and a little intimidating.

You'll never even believe this. Jane sent me the most fabulous travelers kit EVER. Jane has traveled and lived all over the world. She's an expert. Anyway, my care package included the following:
Neck Pillow, Sleep Mask, Travel Journal, Locks for my Suitcases, Book & Book Light, Inflatable cushion to sit on, book on London, Fleece Blanket, Passport Holder, many hygienic one-time-uses, and MORE. I cannot wait to put it all to good use while I rest.

Not to mention she's been a fabulous travel planner.

Chris posted a blog the other day that had a partial tribute regarding his thoughts on the greatness he has in him because of me. It really touched my heart. Chris and I hadn't played nice for a long time and our words were always staggering. Constantly shocking me. I wished him luck in Denver with his endeavors and told him we should share design work over e.mail---we were always good at that. Come to think of it, that may have been the only thing we were good at. There haven't been many times I've been scared of who I'd be without so and so(in fact, i remember the last time.. it was summer after my sophomore year of high school)... but before ending things with Chris, I was worried about not having that person to discuss such a huge part of my life with. If you're not a designer, you can't understand that it's not feasible to discuss design with anyone other than a designer. Sure, you can ask... "Would you buy this?" "Do you prefer this or this?" But it's just a "yes" or "no" or "the first one" as opposed to---
"WHERE IS THE HIERARCHY?"
"WHY ARE YOU MISSING LINKS?"
"Kern dat shit"
"You're not an illustrator, are you?"
"I'd push that farther, it's not where it could be."
"What's with the palette?"
(and other bitchy and semi-bitchy remarks, hah)

I couldn't give a fawks less about having someone to cuddle up with, having someone to go to the movies with, having this, having that.. monkey junky foo fong. I can do those things alone. But I did care about a designer always being around. Then Chris moved out. I hadn't thought about it until last week sometime. I remember bringing it up to Kim, telling her how worried about it I had been and how I hadn't even thought once of it. I've got some really great design friends that I'm constantly sharing work with, so it sort of makes up for it. Either way, I wish Chris a positive and fulfilling future in whatever path he chooses.

I've found a method of getting things done for school. That is, absolutely and without a doubt, working at cafes in my spare time. Far less distractions, not to mention a positive environment. I'm making it a priority to rock socks next quarter.

Just to let you know, I've got my booties on and Josh Holloway on my mind.

INFO DESIGN -- How Things Work

Final  Project for Info Design---How Things Work. Needs a lot of work. I did basically all of it last night.

Info Design: Fixation on Caffeine

sundials

Introducing! Sting, a line of gourmet jams, syrups & cookies. Developed by some lonely bored housewife who wanted something tourists can have as a souv. or to sit on the tables or in the fridges of their lakehouses. Integrating the natural environment of good ole White Lake. A lil somethin I call home.

The first two are for my cookie bags. The labels are cut straight down the center with the left on the front of the cookie bag and the right on the back side of the bag. Two flavors.

The next two are the jams. Each label wraps around a precious jam jar. AWHHH.

These final labels are for the syrups. Another wrap around label. Sorry so small, hope you can double click to enlarge. If not, get over it and I'll post pictures after my EXCLUSIVE PHOTO SHOOT.
I can't stop smiling. I can't stop laughing. I have butterflies every 10-12 seconds.

My toes is dirty in my flips, i spent fifteen straight hours in cafes yesterday doing design work and i'm doing the same thing today, although..

the sun is shining. it's shining right on my arms. tomorrow, i will have a sunburn. i'm not kidding. i made a new friend yesterday. i will see anna in five days and won't see ck for twelve full dees.

my brother is going to kick my ass in approximately two weeks. FAWKS. at that time, i will present him with a gift from my trip. he will love and accept his role and duty as big brother bear and get over it.

Time March

I've been conjuring up ideas about what to do my HofGD book on. I'm thinking high fashion throughout the era's. I'm really interested in such---visually and conceptually... and I think it'd be interesting to learn more about it... see the progression and transitions throughout the years aaaaand make pieces that rock socks. Plus I like clothes and beautiful tall women.

It's creative. It's unexpected. And if you take it for what it is and that just simply, I think you're missing out.

This weekend is going to be demanding and I hope I have enough energy to do it all without my brother. He leaves for SC today, although, I'm going home tomorrow morning. I'm a little nervous. It's awful timing. I'm too proud of him right now. It's close to overflowing my heart.

This weekend has a ton of great great dynamics though....Those are the following; family, numero uno. Whit, Jen B, Jen E, Aaron, Bowling, Bevs, Peks, and CHLOEGIRL. NOT WRIGLEY. NOT EVEN CLOSE TO WRIGLEY. HE IS NOT A PERK. HE IS A JERK. But Charlie, oh I can cuddle that monster up. And I will. I will make him sit with me. In short, I can't wait for it all.

ON THE UPSIDE, I received my passport last night. And had a sleepover with KIMS. It was cute. We're really cute together. We have freckles and red hair together and we're both designers aaaaand we both like reading before we go to sleeps. We had on our glasses and our jams and our materials while sitting slash laying propped up against the wall. I got to pick when I was tired, too. And she closed her book when I did and we said goodnight, bear. And then the other one said goodnight, bear.

Peace.

boustrophedon

I can’t decide if it’s mature or naïve. To look at problems rather than solutions, to be interested in the complexity rather than the simplicity. I really, in all honesty, do not know.

What I do know, is that each time I do a clipping mask, I have to google it. Nokeair how many I’ve done. Have to. It’s like a pre-req. I also know that I need a thunderstorm, Michigan-Style. I need to drive up onto the beach and watch it come in, I need to sit in the four seasons room on the wicker couch surrounded by windows, thunder and lightning with chloegirl. I need that. What else do I know? Eh, I know nothing and that makes me stupendously knowledgeable.

OH! I know that I’m usually good with gut feelings, but with cab drivers, I’m not. I’m always nervous.

I had an amazing cab driver last night. He had a great attitude when I asked him first if it was OK that I used a card rather than cash. He was super sweet. I was forced into watching the Bone Collector for the second time in all of my life about… 4 months ago. I’m not joking when I say that I took the dvd out of my computer, grabbed the case, and threw it down the trash chute of my old building about 40 minutes into the film. I was devastated for the next week. I saw it once before, I was about 11 or 12. I was actually on vacation in Chicago when I saw it.

I used to love scary movies. I realized last fall that now I’m really just not into seeing violence at all. I really enjoy action movies, but too much violence just rubs me the wrong way. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that I’ve gotten accustomed to the fact that there is more violence where I am now and that I’ve seen some of these people in action, streets away from where I sleep each night… or if it’s just that I’ve grown out of seeing people tortured. I feel disgusting that I paid to see these sick thoughts represented so casually.

I need to find a medium. After I work and go to school all day…. if I go home and relax, I don’t get homework done which doesn’t work for me or Kerby.HA.. So, if I have caffeine at 3p, I get tired still. Yet, if I have it at 6p, I feel awake and cannot sleep when I lay down to wake up at 6:30a that morning.

On my list of movies to see:
EARTH- google this and watch the trailer. I cannot wait. Oh, geeze, don’t google it. Here:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/earth/

Whitney, this comes out April 22… so when you come here in May, I want to take you to it, like on a lil dateskies. MMK. ;)

Allright, peace folks.

Saturday, March 7, 2009

It's been a pretty low-key weekend. I was sick during the week and have been trying to re-energize. Although, I did buy a killer dress yesterday. It's a size 4 and I'm half way between a 4 & a 6 and I already forgot that I'm supposed to be making an effort. Shoots.

And anyway, I purchased a great scanner today. I've been looking at some reviews for some printers and am almost ready to make the big purchase. I wanted a scanner and not 4 scanner/printer/all-in-one's that never work and always wants to copy and print rather than scan and import.... to go with my printer. I hope to have my little station soon, although, I'm unable to keep it plugged in and easily accessible. Shoots.

I can be a super nanny sometimes. I'm nannying right now. Lil Elei had a coughskies tonight and fell asleep on the couch with his hands clasped behind his head. It was too cute.

Had a taste of spring on Friday. Let go of all my cares and booked it to the zoo. Perfect! I cannot wait for the the summer. Trips, camping, summer fests, sandals. MMM a chicken caesar wrap from Peks, those little walks where everything feels perfect, a great beach fire. OOOH! AHHH!(s)

I am absolutely going to the cafe and working all day tomorrow on homework. If you catch me anywhere outside of the cafe or Kinko's, please get mad about it.

I'm bad at blogging, peace.

backwards, forwards, c m y k.

I want to start journaling again, for the mere fact that I'd like to remember. I get nervous when I cannot remember things. It's frightening, unnerving, it leaves you to question. And sometimes it just feels damn good to write something down.  It feels steady even when everything else is flying. It's a fact when life gives you fiction.

Who am I? Sometimes I know. Other times, I've not the slightest. That's the truth. Sometimes I'm worried about love, sometimes I'm worried about money, but I think I just want to live with a style that is genuine and remarkable. Profound in its ambitious quality and compassion. I have goals, but I'm focused on the journey. This phenomenal journey, isn't it?

I'm looking forward to the completion of this quarter. I'm looking forward to London, Memorial Day Weekend, Colorado, Camping, L.A. and Christmas lights. I'm looking forward to having long hair that I can spiral curl and nights of karaoke. A soccer league, the Montague Pier, laying in the grass under the sun in sandals.

oh life, you are beckoning. and i'll stick around, out of mere curiosity.
